Developing expertise in the sector

In June 2017, Smith & Nephew announced a new partnership with the Memphis Bioworks Foundation and its ZeroTo510 Medical Device Accelerator to create a new Executive in Residence programme.

The Executive in Residence programme adds to the ZeroTo510 Accelerator, which guides medical device entrepreneurs through the start-up process, helping them to refine their business models and market strategies with the goal of gaining clearance for commercial deployment through the FDA’s 510(k) process and ultimately developing a path to product sales.

Through the Executive in Residence programme, Smith & Nephew executives will provide ZeroTo510 cohorts with ongoing expertise and guidance in the medical device market for sales, product development and other critical elements of a successful business.

“Entrepreneurship is an important part of advancing the medical device industry,” said Kelley Grusin, Senior Director of Product Development at Smith & Nephew. “This programme is a contribution to our Memphis community and will provide valuable education and expertise for the teams involved with ZeroTo510. To be immersed in the ZeroTo510 entrepreneurial and acceleration environment will in turn benefit our team and expand their knowledge from a unique business development perspective.”
